Blue Sapphire (नीलम)

Blue Sapphire, a native of the Corundum mineral family, is an influential blue colored
gemstone. It is called Neelam in Sanskrit, derived from the word Neel, meaning blue.
According to Vedic astrology, Blue Sapphire (Neelam) was one of the nine treasures of
Kubera and is a powerful stone that appeases its ruling planet, Saturn (Shani). Wearing a
blue sapphire accentuates fame, good health, and protection.

According to Indian astrology, Blue Sapphire is the birthstone of Makar (Capricorn), and Kumbha (Aquarius) zodiacs while western astrology attributes it to Libra. The elegant and enticing Blue Sapphire belongs to the ever-powerful Saturn and should follow the following stipulations.

Weight: Typically, the gemstone size should be approximately 1/10th of your body weight, which means 1 carat for every 10 kgs. Alternatively, it can be according to the strength required as per your horoscope or as advised by your astrologer.

Quality: For the best astrological results, non-treated and non-heated blue sapphires found in Sri Lanka and Burma are ideal.

Metal: Gold is most suitable as per our knowledge and expertise, but one can wear it in silver as generally prescribed.

Finger: The middle finger of the left hand for women and the right hand for men is our recommendation.

Day: Saturday.

Time: Evening after sunset at 7.15 PM/ 8.15 PM/9.15 PM as Saturn is most powerful after sunset.

Mantra: Om Shani Namah or Om ShanicharyaNamah.

Upratna: Amethyst, Iolite, Indicolite (Blue Tourmaline), and other natural blue gemstones.

Saturn (Shani) governs happiness and riches and has a stronghold over flexibility, taking risks, youthfulness, and overall well-being. It is known to influence the horoscope strongly, both personally, and professionally.

A balanced Saturn makes one compassionate and charitable, with a strong bend towards being disciplined, responsible, and resilient.

An exalted Saturn gives long life, generosity, riches, skills, and a loving partner. However, a weak Saturn in the horoscope could result in chronic health issues like neurological disorders, epilepsy, headaches, and a weak immune system leading to depression, unease, fear, loneliness, and discontent.

Since it is associated with the color blue, a Blue Sapphire (Neelam) stone can deflect its harsh effects and transform Saturn's cosmic energy positively for the wearer in the following manner.

Prosperity: It helps better fortunes by encouraging good decision-making for wealth creation.

Health: It benefits your lifespan by strengthening your immune system and maintaining mental, physical, and psychological well-being.

Fame: It supports in making you a compassionate, charitable, and positive community influence.

Values: It helps improve discipline and focus, making you goal-oriented.

Partner: It aids in attracting a loving and equal partner to share your life.

Success: It helps remove the fear of failure and become accomplished.

Protection: It helps shield you from fatal accidents and imminent dangers. It also cushions people facing the hardships of Shani Sade Sati and Shani Dhaiya.

Blue Sapphire comes in a varied range depending on its authenticity and superiority. It all depends on the 4 Cs, the Cut, Colour, Clarity and Caratage, the place of origin, and treatment. The finest variety comes from Sri Lanka, Burma, and Kashmir.

Cut - The cut of a gemstone gives it face value. The better the facets of a gem, the more valuable it is.

Colour - Non-treated and non-heated deep colored blue sapphires cost more than treated, heated ones.

Clarity - Visible inclusions like fine silk threads, fingerprints, or color bands that scatter the light form a part of the gemological DNA. Blue Sapphires without any inclusions are rare to find and hence, are expensive. The clearer the gemstone, the higher the value.

Caratage - A Blue Sapphire with the best cut, color, and clarity is challenging to find in higher caratage and hence precious. So, a two-carat gemstone would be one fourth the price of a four-carat in the same quality. Due to the easy availability of smaller sizes than the bigger ones, the more the carat weight, the higher the stone's cost.

Place of Origin - The best blue sapphires referred for astrological purposes come from Sri Lanka and Burma. The ones sourced from Kashmir are rare and of high value but might not necessarily be more effective. They are more of a collectible item because of their limited availability and rarity.

Treatment - There are three types of sapphires available in the market. First up are the non-heated and non treated blue sapphires that are best for astrological requirements. The mildly heated blue sapphires enhanced for their color come a close second. The best qualities in both these categories come from Sri Lanka and Burma.

And lastly, you have the glass-filled and lead-filled blue sapphires from Bangkok used for costume jewelry and are considered to have no astrological value. These low-quality sapphires are infused with a cobalt-rich form of glass to improve their color.

Unfortunately, 95% of the market is flooded with these cosmetic stones with negligible qualities required for astrological effects. In many countries, these glass-filled sapphires are considered synthetic.

Certification – We are stringent with our quality standards and assure you of the best gemstones. Our Blue Sapphires come with a Private Lab Certificate. We can also provide a higher lab certificate like the GII or IGI at extra cost if required. Some of our gemstones are readily certified from both, GII (Gemological institute of India)  or IGI (International Gemological Institute)

Do note that the lab will certify all three types of blue sapphires as 'Natural Blue Sapphires' only in the title. However, in the remarks or comments section, they will mention the variety. E.g., if the comments section cites 'No indication of thermal enhancement' or is blank, it means the gemstone is unheated and untreated. If it cites 'Indication of thermal enhancement', then the gem is heated. Lastly, if the remark mentions 'Indication of foreign material', it means the gemstone is glass-filled or lead-filled.
