Yellow Sapphire (पुखराज/पुष्कराज)

Yellow Sapphire, as the name suggests, is a yellow colored gemstone from the Corundum mineral family. Commonly known as Pukhraj or Pushparagam, it is the beautiful gemstone of the planet Jupiter (Brihaspati). According to Vedic Astrology, Brihaspati was a renowned sage who counseled the gods. Hence, Jupiter is revered as an auspicious and benevolent 'guru'. Wearing a yellow sapphire strengthens wisdom, spiritual insight, and prosperity.

According to Indian astrology, Yellow Sapphire is the birthstone of Dhanu(Sagittarius) and Meen (Pisces) rashies. Yellow sapphire intensifies the cosmic energies of the auspicious planet of Jupiter and brings personal, financial, and spiritual benefits.

According to Vedic astrology, Jupiter (Brihaspati) also known as 'DevaGuru'is a benevolent planet associated with the color yellow. It rules spirituality, knowledge, happiness, and finance. It is said to be strong in the horoscopes of influential individuals who reap rich dividends of their previous karma.

A well-placed Jupiter stimulates the path of altruism, spirituality, optimism, faith, and good judgment. It accentuates power, respect, and leadership qualities in an individual.

If Jupiter is exalted, it makes one an influential and valued leader, although susceptible to bouts of anger.

On the other hand, an ill-placed Jupiter bends towards greed, cynicism, laziness, vanity, and selfishness. It makes the individual heartless and unhappy, with a negative outlook towards life.

Yellow Sapphire (Pukhraj) transmits a light blue cosmic color. These cold color waves relate to the ethereal nature and can benefit the wearer in the following manner.

Spirituality: It offers insight into spiritual understanding and transcendental wisdom.

Healing: Jupiter governs bodily fluids. Hence, wearing a yellow sapphire balances the endocrine system and helps cure diseases of the glands, fat system, and bodily cavities.

Finance: As it is the planet of bounty, it helps in making wise decisions that increase fortune. It aids in improved financial stability and a better lifestyle.

Success: It helps propel academic and creative pursuits, positively influences trades and businesses giving power and leadership opportunities. It also enables ample opportunities to do charitable work.

Behavior: It assists in calming the ego and nurtures a more cheerful and optimistic temperament.

Relationships: Favourable for women, it brings them happiness, joy, and contentment in their relationships. It is known as 'Karak' or a 'significator' for an apt husband/life partner for a woman. It also helps in facilitating pregnancy and comfortable childbirth.

The best variety of Yellow Sapphires are from Sri Lanka, Burma, and Australia. These gemstones vary in tints from pale lemon yellow to bright canary yellow. It all depends on the 4 Cs, the Cut, Colour, Clarity and Caratage, the place of origin, and treatment.

Cut - The cut of a gemstone gives it face value. The better the facets of a gem, the more valuable it is.

Colour - Non-treated and non-heated deep-colored yellow sapphires cost more than treated, heated ones.

Clarity - Visible inclusions like fine silk threads, fingerprints, or color bands that scatter the light form a part of the gemological DNA. Yellow Sapphires without any inclusions are rare to find and hence, are expensive. The clearer the gemstone, the higher the value.

Caratage - A Yellow Sapphire with the best cut, color, and clarity is challenging to find in higher caratage and hence precious. So, a two-carat gemstone would be one fourth the price of a four-carat in the same quality. Due to the easy availability of smaller sizes than the bigger ones, the more the carat weight, the higher the stone's cost.

Place of Origin - The finest yellow sapphires for astrological purposes come from Sri Lanka, Burma and Australia.

Treatment - There are three types of sapphires available in the market. First up are the non-heated and non treated yellow sapphires that are best for astrological requirements. The heated yellow sapphires enhanced for their color are of 2 different types A) Srilankan heated yellow sapphire which is heated (may lose their color) & also the severely heated Srilankan yellow sapphire from beryllium treatment. B)Heated yellow sapphires which are sold as Bangkok yellow sapphires. The best qualities in both these categories come from Sri Lanka, Burma, and Australia.

And lastly, you have the glass filled, and lead-filled yellow sapphires from Bangkok used for costume jewelry and are considered to have no astrological value. These low-quality sapphires are infused with a cobalt-rich form of glass to improve their color. Unfortunately, 95% of the market is flooded with these cosmetic stones with negligible qualities required for astrological effects. In many countries, these glass-filled sapphires are considered synthetic.

Certification - We are stringent with our quality standards and assure you of the best gemstones for your needs. Our Yellow Sapphires come with a Private Lab Certificate. We can also provide a higher lab certificate like the GII or IGI at extra cost if required. Some of our gemstones are readily certified from both, GII (Gemological institute of India)  or IGI (International Gemological Institute)

Do note that the lab will certify all three types of yellow sapphires as 'Natural Yellow Sapphires' only in the title. However, in the remarks or comments section, they will mention the variety. E.g., if the comments section cites 'No indication of thermal enhancement' or is blank, it means the gemstone is unheated and untreated. If it cites 'Indication of thermal enhancement', then the gem is heated. Lastly, if the remark mentions 'Indication of foreign material', it means the gemstone is glass-filled or lead-filled.
